Dear Design Diary...Moodboard #1

I love playing around with Olioboard and just designed a moodboard for a hallway. I envision the hallway as long and narrow with red and yellow accents mixed with black and white. What do you think? I would love this...

Dark floor, cool wallpaper, zebra rug, red accents and yellow table - I couldn't resist my favorite saying on the wall either...I love these colors together, do you? To see more fun and create your own moodboards, visit Olioboard here. Hope you have a great week!

Grace Kelly...style icon...

Before Kate and Diana, Grace Kelly was the style icon of the 1950's. Becoming Princess of Monaco only enhanced her worldwide status as a fashion icon and here, I highlight two looks before she was married.  A friend of mine saw the Grace Kelly exhibit in London last year and sent me a couple of books about her.

Grace is modeling a cocktail dress with her mother looking on...she loved clothes and  shopping for new things, but liked her old clothes as they were so comfortable...

I love this photo - it's so 50's...the loafers, jeans and button down shirt - still in style  and still looks great today...

The new icon...

Well, I just can't help it...Kate Middleton looked so fab in Reiss' dress that they not only sold out of it within hours, but, their internet site crashed! A new style icon is born and I think it is only fair to say, we can't wait to see how her style evolves...for the fashion lover, this will be fun!! Happy weekend!!

Looking fabulous in this Reiss nude color dress with Michelle Obama...

Wouldn't you...

Just love to fly away to this spectacular place? The Seychelles where Prince William and Kate Middleton just stayed for their honeymoon. I would LOVE to go there and stay in one of those huts over the water...no phones, no internet, no TV, no noise except the sound of water and a magazine page turning! Preferably a design or fashion mag!  This would be my dream vacation #1 (#2 is a safari in Africa, but that's for another day). How about you? Where is your dream destination for inspiration and recharging of the batteries, so to speak? Do share...

The Fairfax faucet...

I just bought this faucet  from Kohler for a project I am working on and I absolutely love it - it will be in a very old lake house with an antique sink that is 53" in width.  It is just old fashioned enough looking with the little white pop of porcelain. This is a great choice for a kitchen design scheme that is vintage or retro. There are also Fairfax lav faucets for the bathroom in different finishes. Would you use this in a project?

I'm not ready for fall yet, but I saw this collection for H&M and can't believe how chic these looks are! I wish I could wear this stuff, but I'm not sure I could get away with the pants in the first picture. Would you wear them??

This is totally wearable...love it!

Sunday brunch...

A little departure from my usual column, but, this picture really captures a feeling...where you might want to be. If it is in the shadow of Mt. Kilimanjaro, then so be it! Here we are enjoying fresh fruit in Africa...aaahhhh...

Calgon take me away!! This is breakfast at the Tawi Lodge - wow, I would love to wake up here, how about you? Happy Sunday!

Saturday in the kitchen...

Summer is fast approaching and I love going up to Maine, so this house on Penobscot Bay really shows the vintage look and beadboard that reminds me of a lake or beach house. Are you dreaming of summer yet??

Check out the faucet, the stainless counters and the island with the beautiful warm wood...even the drawer pulls are unique. The sweet curtain and sconces make it look homey. Hope you all have a fantastic Saturday!

Wanted: Wallpapers that WOW...

I came across this fantastic website today while rambling around looking at vintage enamel sink tops...well, I can't resist great wallpaper and these patterns are a must-see. Art Deco, Mod, Vintage and Arts & Crafts never really look 'out' to me...but, maybe to some. These papers are so beautifully unique and the names really set them apart - how can you resist a paper called 'Googieland?' These all come in different colorways, so the website is definitely worth a visit. What do you think? Still in style, totally gauche or cool? For more fun, visit here.

Zenith Periwinkle

Stardust Midnight (my favorite)

Grete Sea of Green

Hi-Fi Moody Blue

Daisy Kooky Coral

Mellotron Ginchy Green

Googieland Ivory

Atomic Doodle Pink

Cyclos Golden Light

Platinum Volute

If I could paper a room, I would choose one of these retro looks...but alas, since I rent, I can't.  Thanks for visiting me and I look forward to seeing you here again tomorrow! Don't forget to follow me on TWITTER and FACEBOOK!!!

Have you seen the Pippa bag???...

Kate Middleton's younger sister Pippa was seen with this fabulous handbag leaving the Goring Hotel in London after the big wedding and apparently, the store immediately sold them out. Modalu also renamed the bag 'Pippa' in her honor. They are currently available for pre-ordering here - I would LOVE to pick one up - how about you?

Pippa Middleton with her mother Carol leaving the Goring Hotel in London the day after Kate and William's big day...notice the handbag. Apparently thousands of other people did and bought the store out!!

Inspired by...

After a long week gone from blogging while my laptop had a hideous virus removed, I am so inspired right now by all the sequins I saw while shopping over the weekend...I couldn't find many internet images, but this says it all. Sequins on curtains, pillows and clothing really looks fresh. Have a great week!

Anyone else feel the sequin love???

Saturday in the kitchen...

After working today and then heading to the nail salon where I opted for the two week gel coat manicure, I am finally home, watched the Kentucky Derby (love watching the horses race!!) and will now settle in for homemade pizza and movie night - tonight's feature is one of my favorites, "Murphy's Romance" with James Garner and Sally Field.  Happy Mother's Day to everyone!!

This is a fabulous beachy kitchen from the beautiful magazine, Coastal Living. I love the beadboard and the soothing colors...do you?

Transforming the bedroom part 2...

Here is the other cabinet I painted in Sherwin Williams' beautiful 'Spa' and placed on the other side of the bed. It is now a pale blue/turquoise riot in the bedroom! I absolutely love it and have purchased some new curtains I will be showing you soon. Have a great weekend!

You can see how 'tatty' this looks before...

After the primer...

Spa!

It was so sunny, I hope I captured the beautiful blue!

I will be changing the red lampshade...

New wall, new comforter, new blue side tables...

The dark pillow covers are actually navy blue, but they look black in photos...

Close up...that's my husband's stuff in there...sorry it isn't cleaner...

The soothing blue view...

Hope you all have a fabulous weekend! Don't forget to follow me on TWITTER and find me on FACEBOOK!!

Transforming a bedroom...

I spent most of yesterday afternoon painting an old cabinet I decided to add as a bedside table instead of one I don't like that we are using. I have now painted both bedside tables as well as a small L.L. Bean table in Sherwin Williams' gorgeous robin's egg blue called 'Spa.'  I still have more work to do as I need new curtains, a new lampshade, new rug and will be replacing one desk with another and painting it orange. I will also be painting a bureau orange. I can't wait but it is all one step at a time. Here is the first bedside table and little plant stand:

I love this cabinet but it was a strange color - kind of tan and white...purchased for about $20 a few years ago...

Here it is on the back deck ready for painting...notice the funny little bun feet...

Ahhh, primer...

I didn't bother painting the inside...it started raining so it got moved to the basement, where I finished it over the past week, including the bun feet.

The little L.L. Bean plant table...

Voila! the beautiful new blue cabinet!

I love how it looks now...its been given a new life...

And there in the corner, the L.L.Bean table in blue too...

Hope you are all having a great week out there in blogland...I will have more transformation pictures this week!  Don't forget that you can also follow me on TWITTER and join me on my new FACEBOOK page...thanks for visiting me!

Spaah on Sunday...

Timing is everything right? So, how strange that just as the Royal Wedding has finally happened and been months in planning, Kohler has introduced the beautiful new Tresham collection that looks part American country and part British aristocrat.  I have a client who is looking for a vanity with similar proportions, and we are looking at a custom cabinet, but, with the new Tresham collection, this is already the style she is looking for. What do you think?

The gorgeous new Tresham collection from Kohler...I love the British influence in this room...

The other end of the bathroom with the shower unit and new vanity on the right and the smart looking toilet to the left...

The vanity my client will love...two cabinets either side of a smaller shelf or cabinet in the middle...I want that rug!

Notice the square lines of both these pieces and how pretty they look against the wainscoting...the swirly circles wallpaper is a nice contrast against the square outline of toilet and pedestal.

How is your Sunday shaping up?  I will be going for a long walk followed by some painting projects I have waiting for me.  Have a good rest of the weekend!
